acclaimed, politically progressive news source that
provides readers with a view of what's happening in our
world that is difficult to find in mainstream media.

American Voice 2004 - while not precisely for either
activism or alternative news, this website fairly (I
believe) presents both conservative and liberal progressive
viewpoints for your consideration.

Friends Committee on
National Legislation (FCNL) - is a public interest
lobby founded in 1943 by members of the Religious Society
of Friends. FCNL seeks to bring the concerns, experiences
and testimonies of Friends (called Quakers) to bear on
policy decisions in the nation's capital. FCNL's
multi-issue advocacy connects historic Quaker testimonies
on peace, equality, simplicity and truth with peace and
social justice issues which the United States government is
or should be addressing. FCNL seeks to follow the leadings
of the Spirit as it speaks for itself and for like-minded
people.

Council (NRDC) - is a very effective environmental
action organization. NRDC uses law, science and the support

(EINO). They seek to educate and mobilize the public,
stimulate debate and encourage moving the states and
country towards a more humane and equitable system which

Americans.

Virginians for Alternatives
to the Death Penalty (VADP) - This is not an easy call
for me. I have bounced back and forth for years on this
subject. But for now, I believe, as Mohandas K. Gandhi
said, that "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world

the very best of the vegan websites I've found.
There's no hype, just a simple presentation of the
rationale for adopting a vegan lifestyle: ending cruelty to
animals, benefits to health and environment. There're
also "how-tos" and you can even send away for s
free "Starter Kit" that will get you going on the
vegan way.

has been providing peer-to-peer support, information and
education to people with mood disorders for over 11 years.
They have a huge resource database, mailing lists,

there for a short time, but I've been made welcome and
have found a lot of support and just plain kindness.

MedlinePlus
- an excellent, advertising-free! Federal website
with lots of health information and links. It includes drug
information and an illustrated medical encyclopedia. They
also have mailing lists for various diseases/conditions. A
great resource.

On-line Medical
Dictionary - a searchable dictionary with terms
relating to biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry,
medicine, molecular biology, physics, plant biology,
radiobiology, science and technology (whew!).

PubMed/MEDLINE
- PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine,
provides access to over 12 million MEDLINE citations back
to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals.
PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text
articles and other related resources.

this is an online version of MadLibs. Spend countless hours
creating twisted stories.

The Dialectizer - You type in an URL or some
text and click a button and the Dialectizer converts the
text to various "dialects", like
"jive", "redneck", "Swedish
chef" and several more. I think it's hilarious and
very cleverly done. This definitely shows how childish I
am.

Facade - a website
devoted to tarot, runes, I Ching, biorhythms, numerology,
and other forms of divination. I don't know how much I
believe in it, but if you don't take it too seriously I
think it's kinda fun.

Black Viper - For
Windows 2000 and XP. Complete explanations of each Windows
service and advice on which you can safely disable and
various tweaks.

Pricelessware -
This is a great site for computer freeware. Instead of
having tons of stuff to choose from in each category, they
only have a few. These have been determined by vote to be
the very best by the alt.comp.freeware newsgroup.

SnapFiles
(freeware section) - bucketloads of computer freeware
in lots of categories.

Spyware
Removal - They offer articles, software reviews and
resources to help you fight spyware. The (freeware) tools I
use for spyware are Lavasoft
Ad-Aware and Spybot-Search
& Destroy.

TweakXP - an
excellent website dedicated to improving and customizing
Microsoft Windows XP.

The W3C Validation
Service - This service will check the web page you
submit to see if it's valid HTML or XHTML, depending on
the DOCTYPE you've given the page. Don't know what
a DOCTYPE is? They'll tell you.

W3Schools Online Web
Tutorials - A collection of free HTML, CSS,
JavaScript, XML, XHTML, ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, SQL and a bunch
of other tutorials with lots of working examples and source
code. I couldn't believe that such good tutorials would
be for free! I've learned a lot here.
